  5. What is the prevalence of sexual dysfunction in men?

The most common sexual dysfunction in men is related to erection. In studies conducted all over the world, approximately 55% of men between the ages of 40-70 have mild, moderate and severe erectile dysfunction.

Loss of sexual desire is observed in 15% of adult men and 30% of men over the age of 50.

Premature ejaculation is observed in 30% of men. 10% of men experience intermittent ejaculation or delayed ejaculation…

The problem of delayed ejaculation and inability to orgasm is less common than others. It is usually seen in middle ages and one in 10 men encounters this problem.

What is the cause of sexual dysfunction in men?

The common cause of sexual dysfunctions is; These are psychological, relationship-related or disease-related factors. Performance anxiety is the most important result or cause, depending on the situation, of psychological factors. Physical causes are usually detected in a minority of patients. The most common of these reasons is medication side effects. Other common physical causes are; diabetes, vascular diseases, smoking, alcohol or drug abuse, endocrine (hormonal) diseases and neurological diseases.

Who should be consulted first regarding sexual dysfunction?

First of all, a urologist or psychiatrist experienced in sexual dysfunctions should be consulted for the initial evaluation. The initial evaluation is very important in distinguishing whether the problem is psychological, relational, situational or physical in origin.
